rabbitheart

heart pumps, carrying blood to the body, to the brain.

when you feel a pulse, you are not meant to use your thumb : there is a major artery there, and you might mistake your heartbeat for the other's. there is a pulse in our neck, in our wrists, in our inner thighs, in our tongues. a major artery in each of these places.

with each hurried hit of your feet against the warm pavement, my heart races to catch up. the sun catches you from behind and i bite my tongue to keep the words i want to say from slipping out - i can feel the pulse there through my teeth.

when you reach out to fix the collar of my shirt, i hope that it is your thumb that brushes against my neck, so you mistake your pulse for my own. i hope that one day you will not.
